OwnRails

Terms of service

We rent you payment infrastructure. Your customers' money goes straight to your wallet and never passes through ours — which shapes almost every clause below.

No company stands behind this service, and no individual is named here yet. It is run by one person under the trading name OwnRails, reachable at the address above, and these terms bind them. We would rather say that outright than let you assume a company exists. If that matters to your decision — and for some businesses it reasonably will — write to us before you rely on the service.

1. What you are buying

A hosted instance of BTCPay Server, operated by us, connected to a wallet that you control. You pay a flat subscription for the infrastructure. We take no percentage of your sales, because we are never in a position to take one.

BTCPay Server is independent open-source software. We run it; we did not write it and we do not modify it. The exact versions and image digests we run are published on our trust page so you can verify that claim rather than take our word for it.

2. We never hold your money

You supply an extended public key or a receiving address. Payment addresses are derived from it, and your customers pay those addresses directly on the relevant blockchain. The funds go from your customer to you. They do not stop with us on the way, and there is no moment at which we could redirect, withhold, freeze or refund them.

The corollary matters as much as the promise: if you lose access to your wallet, we cannot recover your funds. We hold no private keys, no seed phrase and no backup of either. There is no password reset for money. Back up your wallet before you take your first payment.

3. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for everything done through your account. Tell us promptly if you believe it has been compromised. An attacker with access to your account cannot spend your existing funds, but can change the wallet that future payments are derived from — so treat account access with the same care as wallet access.

One person or business per account. You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live.

4. Fees and how billing works

Subscriptions are prepaid in cryptocurrency. You buy a period of service before it starts, at the price shown on the pricing page when you buy. Plans start at $2 per month.

We do not store a card, we hold no payment instrument of yours, and nothing is ever automatically debited. Service continues while paid time remains and stops when it runs out. Because each payment is a separate on-chain transaction with its own network cost, the smallest invoice we can issue is $8; shorter periods are bought by buying more months at once, not by paying less.

Prices are set in US dollars and converted to crypto at the rate when the invoice is created. The invoice holds that rate for a fixed window; if it expires you get a new invoice at a new rate.

If we change prices, the change applies to your next purchase, never to time you have already bought.

5. What we commit to, and what we do not

We aim to keep the service running continuously and to restore it quickly when it breaks. We do not offer a contractual uptime guarantee or service credits at these prices, and we would rather say so here than bury a promise we have not engineered for.

What we do commit to: we will not hold your data hostage. You can export your invoice history at any time, and because your wallet is yours, you can point it at a different BTCPay host — ours or your own — without asking us. Leaving is a configuration change, not a negotiation.

Blockchains, exchange-rate feeds and node software are outside our control. Delays or failures originating there are not breaches of this agreement, though we will tell you what we know when they happen.

6. Your responsibilities

What you sell, to whom, and on what terms is between you and your customers. You are responsible for your own legal and tax obligations, including reporting income and charging any tax due. We do not issue tax documents on your behalf and we do not see your sales revenue.

Your use of the service must comply with our acceptable use policy, which forms part of this agreement.

Refunds to your customers are yours to make, from your own wallet. See the refund policy for the distinction between your customers’ payments and our subscription fees.

7. Suspension and termination

You may stop at any time by not buying more time. There is nothing to cancel and no notice period.

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches the acceptable use policy, that we are legally required to stop serving, or that is damaging the service for others. Where circumstances allow we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond first; where they do not — a legal order, an active attack — we may act first and explain after.

Suspension stops the service, not your money. Payments already confirmed on-chain are in your wallet and stay there. Where we terminate without cause, we refund unused prepaid time as account credit or on request to a wallet address you give us.

8. Liability

The service is provided as-is. To the extent the law where you live allows it, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, and we are not liable for lost profits or lost revenue.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for fraud. Some consumer protections cannot be signed away; where they apply to you, they apply regardless of this clause.

We are specifically not liable for losses arising from a wallet, extended public key or address that you configured, including funds sent to an address derived from a key you no longer control. Verifying that you control the wallet you connect is the one thing we cannot do for you.

9. Changes to these terms

We will post changes here with a new effective date, and email account holders before material changes take effect. Continuing to use the service after that date means you accept the revised terms. If you do not, stop buying time and tell us — we will refund unused prepaid time.

10. Governing law

This agreement is governed by the law of Iraq, and disputes belong to its courts. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of protections available to you under the law of your own country.

OwnRails is operated by an individual, not an incorporated company, from Iraq. Questions about these terms go to support@ownrails.com.
